Laboratory of neurochemistry
Gulnur Shingozhievna Burbayeva is the head of the laboratory of neurochemistry, doctor of biological sciences, professor. In 1972 she upheld her PhD's thesis “Immunochemical study of human brain”, and in 1989 - her doctoral thesis “Neurospecific proteins of normal human brain and in mental disorders: distribution, content, activity”. She has 110 publications in foreign and national literature, in which the results of long-term studies are reflected. She supervised the work of 7 candidates of biological sciences.
The Laboratory was organized in 1990. The specific feature of its operation is the use of modern high-tech methods of assessment: liquid chromatography, isoelectric focusing, bi-dimensional protein electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, immunochemical methods (Western immune blotting, immune blotting with chemoluminiscent amplification of the signal. solid-phase immunofluorescence), isolation and testing of antibodies to protein studied, etc. The laboratory has international contacts with France, England, and the USA.
The Laboratory is staffed with 8 research fellows.
Scope of research activities of the Laboratory:
- Evaluation of phosphorilation of brain proteins in schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease.
- Identification of specific features of the energy (creatine phosphate) system in schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease.
- Elaboration of glutamate concept of schizophrenia pathogenesis, based on improved methods of brain glutamate metabolism.
