Department of the risk assessment of functional mental disorders

Serguei Yuryevich Tsirkin is the head of the Department of the risk assessment of functional mental disorders, doctor of medical sciences, professor. He upheld his PhD's thesis “The Kandinsky-Clerambault syndrome in delusional schizophrenia (typology and prognostic value)” in 1980 and defended his doctoral thesis “Schizophrenia: trans-cultural evaluation” in 1988. His scientific interests involve “borderline” psychiatry, general psychopathology. He is the author of over 100 scientific papers. Under the supervision of S.Yu. Tsirkin, 5 PhD's (Canndidate of Med. Sci.) theses have been upheld. He is a member of editorial councils of international journals “Review of Modern Psychiatry”, “Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology”. He is a WHO expert on the development and revision of ICD-10.

The Department is functioning since 1997 and is staffed with 14 research fellows.

Scope of research activities of the Department:

1. Age-related aspect of general psychopathology and clinical psychiatry in the field of borderline mental pathology, with considerations of somatic (endocrine, metabolic and autonomous) disorders.

2. The role of “psychopathologic diathesis” concept and its differentiation in relation to mental abnormalities and the “normal mental state”.
