Participation of the Mental Health Research Center in the Work of the International Classification of Mental Disorders and in the Implementation of ICD-10 into the Practical Activities of Russian psychiatrists.

Some of the leading specialists of the Center - A.S. Tiganov, R.A. Nadzharov, A.B. Smulevich, S.Yu. Zirkin, etc. - took ingenuous participation in the creation of ICD-9 and ICD-10. Their work was as essential contribution in the elaboration of a common language for psychiatrists of different countries.

During the past years special accentuation was make to acquaint the Russian psychiatrists with ICD-10 and the implementation of it into every day practice, as well as to acquaint them with the statistical documents, in respect to mental health. Another side of this work was to adapt ICD-10 to the national Russian classification of mental disorders. As a result, the following publication were presented:

- In 1999 the Handbook of Psychiatry, 2 vol. Ed. By A.S. Tiganov were presented. The classificational position of each disorder is given according to the National Classification as well as according to ICD-10.

- A special report made by A.S. Tiganov in the ICD-10 "Systematic and Diagnostic Criteria of Endogenous Psychosis in the International Statistical Classification of diseases - 10th revision (ICD-10)".

- With a participation of the Center (M.Ya. Tsytsulkovskaya, G.P. Panteleeva,

I.A. Kozlova, V.M. Bashina) a special text-book was published "Mental Diseases and Behavioral Disorders (F00-F99) Class V, ICD-10 adapted for the use in the Russian Federation", Moscow, 1998.

- The professionals of the Center were invited to take part in training courses, which are systematically convened in Russia in the framework of postgraduate training, as well as for separate groups of specialists (child psychiatry, military psychiatrists, etc.)
